Weekend Symposium on Mid-century Architect Charles M. Goodman
The Friends of Hollin Hills are sponsoring an event September 13, 14, and 14, 2024 celebrating the work of Charles M. Goodman, a mid-century, DC based architect responsible for innovative residential communities in the DC metro area, including Hickory Cluster, Hammond Wood, and Hollin Hills.
The weekend event aims to expand awareness of the work of Charles Goodman - a locally prominent and nationally influential architect - through panels, discussions, and tours over the course of three days. The Symposium will explore Goodman's whole-community design, his emphasis on siting and creating livable family homes, and his impact beyond the design of free-standing homes. The symposium will examine Goodman’s legacy in the context of the larger modernist movement, discuss his techniques and innovations, and look at the preservation and livability of Goodman homes. Speakers include Mary Means, Richard Guy Wilson, Joseph Dye Lahendro, Greg Hunt, John Burns, and Dennis Carmichael. Multiple Goodman neighborhoods in the DC metro area and Richmond are actively involved.
Tickets are now available for the weekend and can be purchased at this website: Goodman Symposium (friendsofhollinhills.org) A full program of the specific sessions is available there as well.
