Architecture & Design Film Festival at the National Building Museum, Feb 21-24
The Architecture & Design Film Festival (ADFF) returns to the National Building Museum from February 21-24 this year, marking the second annual D.C. edition of the event. Of particular note for Modernism enthusiasts are films on architects Albert Frey (paired with a short on Charlotte Perriand) and 2018 Pritzker Prize winner Balkrishna Doshi, whose first job was building Chandigarh with Le Corbusier. The festival will also showcase a look at the influential Barcelona Pavilion, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe with Lilly Reich, and "Built to Last," which compiles 10 short films on Communist-era monuments spread across Central and Eastern Europe.
This year, the National Building Museum has partnered with Sony to screen six short films in a 14-seat mini-theater, anchored by a 15-minute documentary highlighting the work of Barbara Stauffacher Solomon.
Visitors to the ADFF can also meander through "Flickering Treasures," an exploration of Baltimore's 20th century movie theaters through the lens of photojournalist Amy Davis.
