Local Event: Ramsey Homes Open House
The City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) are hosting the Ramsey Homes Open House, a chance to explore four WWII era federal apartment buildings designed for African American defense workers before they are torn down.
Where: Alexandria Black History Museum, 902 Wythe St, Alexandria, VA MAP When: Friday & Saturday, Feb. 9 & 10 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
The Ramsey Homes were built between 1940 and 1942 by the federal government to provide segregated housing for federal defense workers. The City and ARHC plan to demolish the four Ramsey buildings to make way for a new 52-unit apartment building. These tours, along with HABS drawings and on-site interpretation, are part of the planned mitigation of the demolition.
